About  Alpacaperu (Australia)

We sell pure alpaca wool garments at about one-third of other alpaca shops' prices. Moreover, we sell pure alpaca wool garments at less than sheep wool prices. For example, in the shops, good quality, pure alpaca wool jumpers sell for more than AUD$200. We sell pure alpaca wool jumpers from AUD$60 to AUD$110. That's not even a sheep wool price of around AUD$180. The reason is as follows.

We are the manufacturers selling direct. There is absolutely no middle-man. Further, in the shops, one usually purchases sea-level-quality alpaca garments, or worse still, alpaca wool mixed with something else (for example sheep wool). We use very high altitude pure alpaca-fleece quality. That is to say, the alpacas used to make our garments live at approximately 3000 metres above sea-level high up in the Andes of Peru (where my parents are from). It's an Australian business but we own (and remotely manage the factory via relatives) the factory located in Peru and use the softest, very high altitude quality wool. All other things being equal, the higher the altitude, the better the fleece quality due to the oxygen being so thin and the coldness. If you could only feel the difference between our sea-level alpaca skins and our high-altitude alpaca skins, you would clearly feel and see the difference. In summary, the shops sell sea-level quality alpaca wool garments at three-times the price that we sell, and we give you much better quality. If you have not had the chance to visit us personally at one of our shops, and felt the difference in the softness and texture of the skins (of different altitudes), please do; visit us. You get the best of both worlds from us; an Australian business with the 3000-metre-altitude advantage of the Peruvian Andean environment where the best alpaca fleece is produced with its HUGE genetic diversity of alpacas. It's like exporting Kangaroos to China; where would you find the best quality Kangaroo skins - China or Australia?

Regardless of altitude though, the alpaca fleece has attributes that places it at the top of the heap. Its hollow fibre make the garments very light-weight and almost three-times more effective insulators when compared to sheep wool (against the heat and the cold; not just the cold). The strong, straight fibre as opposed to the curly-fibre of sheep wool means that alpaca is much more washable than sheep wool (less prone to losing its shape due to the springy effect of sheep wool). Finally, the alpaca fleece contains no Lanolin oil (unlike sheep wool) making it hypo-allergenic.
